India might have ended their reign to qualify for the semi-finals or the finals, but they still have to fight for their places. After the defeat by Spain at Terrassa, India played their next game with Canada at 1:00 am on Tuesday, 12th July. India gained their first victory in the Women’s Hockey World Cup after winning the match by 3-2.
The match was played at Amstelveen in the Netherlands where both the teams displayed a good performance. Canada started their game aggressive and attacked immediately in the first quarter. Madeline Secco of Canada got them a goal in the 11th minute of the game. Canada got a one-goal lead at the start.

The opposite team took the lead and started their defensive strategy, without letting any Indian player into their side of the line. India had a long struggle to enter the opposite goal line. Salima Tete got the chance to score and equalized in the 58th minute of the game. Both teams started attacking to score and get ahead of the other.

Women’s Hockey World Cup: India Registers its First Win, Beats Canada By 3-2 in Shootout
India and Canada ended by a 1-1 draw in the regulation time, and a shoot-out was offered. Indian captain Savita was the leading lady as she made over six saves. Navneet Kaur, Sonika, and Neha scored during the shoot-outs, winning the first game of the World Cup. India and Japan will play on Wednesday.
