Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer talked about Rishabh Pant and how he will be a great opening batsman. He stated how Rohit Sharma should give Pant a chance at his position and more to 4th rank. Jaffer also pointed out that MS Dhoni gave Rohit a chance to open in 2013. According to Wasim, Rohit Sharma should also provide an opportunity for Rishabh to open for India.

Jaffer explained how Rohit Sharma has all that needs to be a middle-order batter. He mentioned how Pant’s strike rate was through the roof after opening two T20I games in 2022. He had a strike rate of over 130. Pant failed to perform well in recent matches and was also not included in the playing 11 of the Asia Cup 2022 opening match of India.

“I still think opening the inns is where we could see the best of Pant in T20. Provided Rohit is ok to bat at 4. MS took a punt on Rohit before CT in 2013, and the rest is history. Time for Rohit to take a punt on Pant. KL, Pant, VK, Rohit, SKY would be my top five,” Jaffer mentioned on his social media.

Pant is added to the T20 World Cup 2022 squad. Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of Asia Cup as he went through a terrible injury. Jadeja isn’t ready for the T20 World Cup due to the injury. He was a crucial player for India with limited left-handed all-rounders. Rishabh Pant will fill his spot to be the prominent middle-order batsman along with Hardik Pandya.
