Nikhat Zareen wins Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championship 2022 after defeating Jitpong Jutamas

The Women’s World Boxing Championship 2022 saw a new Gold medallist yesterday, Nikhat Zareen. She won the finals with a tough fight and achieved the Gold. The Championship was held in Istanbul, Turkey from 8th May till 20th May. Zareen participated in the 52 kg flyweight tournament and played the finals on Thursday. She is 25 years old and was previously the Junior Youth World Champion in 2011. Since then she has represented India in many International tournaments like the 2019 Bangkok Asian Championship, where she got a Bronze.

25-year-old Nikhat boxed against Thai boxer Jitpong Jutamas in the finals to gain the medal. She defeated Thailand with brilliant strategy and quick thinking. It was a tough win, and the points went back and forth as both of them fought with boldness. Zareen defeated Jutamas by 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28 and got the judge’s decision in India’s favor. She now became the fifth female boxer to win Gold after following the steps of Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, and Lekha KC.

Nikhat impressed the judges and played with aggression, landing several punches on the Thai boxer. The second round was a tough fight as the opponent started playing harshly, but she slammed Jitpong in the third round and won 5-0 in her favor.
