Nicholas Pooran Appointed as the New Captain of the West Indies in ODI and T20I

Nicholas Pooran is a left-handed batsman from West Indies was appointed as the new Captain of West Indies cricket team for One Day Internationals (ODI) and T20 Internationals (T20I). He was appointed as the captain after the former captain of West Indies cricket team Kieron Pollard announced his retirement from International Cricket. 

The Cricket West Indies or CWI announced that, “ Nicholas Pooran will take over the captaincy for the West Indies Men’s ODI and T20I team following the international retirement of Kieron Pollard”. Cricket West Indies also mentioned, “ Pooran will take over the captaincy for the West Indies ODI and t20I teams after being Pollard’s deputy over the last year. The appointment will include the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in October 2023.”

Nicholas was earlier the Vice-Captain for during the reign of Kieron Pollard in the West Indies cricket team. His journey from going through a career ending injury to now the Captain of West Indies is very inspiring. Nicholas Pooran is now currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2022.

After the announcement Pooran said, “I am truly honored to be appointed captain of the West Indies team. I am following the footsteps of several giants of the game who have created an amazing legacy for West Indies cricket.”  He further stated, “This is indeed a prestigious role, a pivotal position in the West Indian society, as cricket is the force that brings us all West Indians together. To be named captain is indeed the highlight of my career so far and I want to drive the team forward to accomplish great things on the field for our fans and loyal supporters.”
