Kiran Prabhu Navgire is named in the T20I squad of the Indian Women’s team for England tour. The tour will be from 10th September where both the countries will play three T20Is and three ODIs. Kiran Navgire was into sports but not cricket. She has a keen interest in track athletics events, where she earned more than 100 medals in multiple events.

Kiran Navgire also won a gold medal for Javelin’s throw during the 2011-2012 Inter-Varsity Games. She had an interest in cricket but never prioritized the sport. Navgire idolized Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Only in 2016 when she realized her potential in cricket, Kiran was 22 years old at the time. Her coach, Gulzar Sheikh, told Indian Express about her early days. “She was playing a university game at Azam Sports Academy in Pune. I saw her smashing sixes for fun. Her power-hitting left me amazed. I and our President Dr. PA Inamdar went to her after the match and asked her at which club she is training.”

“She said, I don’t represent any club. I play cricket for fun. I want to do something in athletics because cricket is very costly. After listening to Kiran, I looked at Inamdar sir, and we both said at the same moment, ‘She doesn’t realize her own potential.”

Her coach Gulzar Sheikh and President Inamdar agreed to not take a single penny from her. Five years down the line, she will be in the International team for Indian Women. Coach Shiekh added, “She comes from a very humble background. Back in Solapur, her parents are farmers, we told her that everything will be taken care of. You just come and play cricket at our academy.”
