“Keeping Things Simple Helped” Arshdeep Singh on His Performance at 1st T20I Against West Indies: India played their first T20I game out of five on 29th July at Brian Lara Stadium. It was an incredible performance by the team, especially Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik. India won the game by 68 runs and broke the record of highest runs scored at Brian Lara Stadium with 190 runs in 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh played his second International match for India. He took two wickets for the Indian team. He dismissed Kyle Mayers and Rovman Powell, two crucial players of the West Indies. He later talked about his performance strategy during the press conference.
“It was a good experience. I am happy with my performance. The team won, so the happiness doubled. Due to a break, I am playing after a long time. So, I want to work with Paras sir and improve in my areas. I guess, keeping things simple and using the wicket a lot and using the slower one and at the last just trying to nail my yorkers, I think that worked for me.”

“I was pretty aware of my responsibilities. Both the team management and the captain briefed me about my role as a bowler when I have to come to bowl and all. That gave me a lot of clarity and confidence, and I could plan accordingly. The way Bhuvi Bhai bowls, he keeps the pressure at one end and that helps me to get wickets.”
Arshdeep Singh was asked about the dismissal of Kyle Mayers to which he stated, “He (Mayers) was attacking from the start and he came out hard and could have taken a chance on the bouncer, but my gut instinct told me that I should go for it and it paid off.”

Singh also mentioned Dinesh Karthik and his incredible performance in the final overs of India’s innings. “DK Bhai played a great cameo and that gave us a good cushion as bowlers, and the wicket was also sticky. As a bowling unit, we bowled in the right areas.”
