Indian opener Mayank Agarwal is summoned to play for the Indian team in the test game against England on 1st July after claims suggest Rohit Sharma tested positive for covid-19. Agarwal is a right-handed batsman who has been playing for India since 2018. He debuted in a test match against Australia on 26th December 2018.
India will resume their final test match of the last year’s tour on 1st July and continue their tour with T20Is and ODI games. Mayank Agarwal is set as a backup for Rohit Sharma. Sharma has got infected with covid and might not be in health to play the five-day test. He played the first day of the warm-up match against Leicestershire before being placed in quarantine.

“Mayank is flying today as a cover for Rohit and if need be will be available for the Test match as UK Covid protocols don’t require any quarantine period on landing if RT PCR test is negative,” a BCCI source mentioned to PTI.

Agarwal has played twenty-one tests for India so far and has a score of 1488 runs, with an average of 41.33. He last played this format against Sri Lanka in a home series. Mayank has only scored fifty-nine runs collectively in two test series. Ravichandran Ashwin is also in isolation in India after being positive for covid while heading to England.
