FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to happen in Qatar from 21st November to 18th December. It will be quite an exciting tournament as it is the No.1 Sports Event in the world. A total of thirty-two teams will qualify and play for the Cup. Plenty of notable players will be present representing their countries, like Lionel Messi from Argentina, Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal, Neymar Jr from Brazil, and plenty more. Several rumors are commenting about FIFA 2022 being the last for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It is believable as both players are certainly in the final stages of their careers.
Lionel Messi will be 35 years old by time the World Cup begins. Messi holds the most number of Ballon d’Or Cups than any other player in the world. He is also ranked as the second-highest player on the all-time goal-scoring list, passing a veteran player Pele in the rankings. Lionel was also previously playing for Barcelona in the domestic teams, winning plenty of leagues. His formation has shown a downfall since he departed from Barcelona. It will be his fifth FIFA World Cup since his debut in 2006. the 35-year-old said, “I am going to have to reassess a lot of things after the World Cup, whether it goes well for us or not.” “ I hope it goes well, but a lot of things are definitely going to change, I will decide.” He further stated.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be 38 years old soon and hopes to lift the Cup. Being at the final stage, he is still physically and mentally fit to play for his country, but after four years, the chances are low. Ronaldo is also the captain of the Portugal football team. He scored twenty-four goals for Manchester United this season. Cristiano stated, “ I will be the one to decide, nobody else.” when questioned whether it would be his last World Cup or not.
A new wave of players has entered like Luca Modric, and Mbappe will soon overpower them and might also replace them in the future. Any person will associate football with Messi and Ronaldo as they are the face of the sport. Substituting will be difficult and will be a hell of a task. Both players are yearning to hold the FIFA World Cup this year. It could be their final FIFA World Cup but not the last game.
