Commonwealth Games 2022: “Responsibility to Lead” PV Sindhu on Being India’s Flagbearer in Opening Ceremony: The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be inaugurated on 28th July in Birmingham. India will have a new flag bearer in the opening ceremony, PV Sindhu. Tokyo Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra was the flag bearer, but his injury made him lose the opportunity. Indian Badminton star PV Sindhu will do the honor of being the flag bearer for India in the CWG.

The Indian Olympic Association announced Sindhu as the new flag bearer for India. Indian Hockey captain Manpreet Singh will be the second flag bearer for India. Sindhu was happy to represent India, and the Badminton Association of India released her statement.

She stated, “It is a great honor to be bestowed with the responsibility to lead the contingent and hold the flag at such an august gathering. I am extremely happy and I wish all my fellow contingent all the best for the Games. I would like to thank IOA also, for choosing me as the flag bearer.”

Along with PV Sindhu, two other Olympic medallists were considered for the flag bearer role. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and boxer Lovlina Borgohain. It was a tough decision, and four members of IOA concluded with PV Sindhu. The members were IOA Acting President Anil Khanna, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, IOA Treasurer Anandeshwar Pandey, and Team India Chef de Mission Rajesh Bhandari.

IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta said, “We are happy to select Sindhu as the Flagbearer for the Opening Ceremony. We extend our congratulations to her and wish her and other athletes of Team India, the very best for the Commonwealth Games.”
