Asia Cup 2022: Hong Kong to Join Group 1 with India and Pakistan after defeating UAE

Hong Kong will join the six teams participating in the Asia Cup. The Cup is nearing each day with the opening match on the 27th of August. Hong Kong Cricket team qualified for the Asia Cup 2022 and will be part of India and Pakistan. India will begin its game with Pakistan on the second day on 28th August.

Hong Kong was unbeatable in the Asia Cup qualifiers. They defeated Oman, and UAE in all three matches. In the finals, Hong Kong chose to bowl first against UAE. The United Arab Emirates scored 147 runs in the 20 overs. The Hong Kong team got the upper hand to win by chasing down the target runs. The team reached their target by sparing one over. 

Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan stated his excitement and joy for the Asia Cup. He stated, “I have no words to describe how I feel. I would like to thank Hong Cricket for all their support. Our process was the same, we knew we had to win all three games to qualify for Asia Cup, and that is what we did. We took it game by game, and the boys fought back really well. This is a big tournament to showcase our talent, and this is a great opportunity for everyone on this squad.”

Chundangapoyi Puthiyapurayil Rizwan, the captain of UAE said, “Our bowlers went for a lot of runs, we could say this was because of the dew as the ball was coming nicely onto the bat. So, there is a lot to be learned, and we will learn from this experience and come back stronger.”

Hong Kong’s Ehsan Khan was named the player of the match. He stated his happiness in the post-match presentation. “This is a proud moment for the Hong Kong team and me as well. A big achievement for us. We stuck to the team plan, and we succeeded. I am targeting Virat Kohli in the Asia Cup because he is a great batsman. I will be playing in the Asia Cup for the second time and that is a big achievement for me.”
