Kapil Dev: It’s been 39 years since the history of India and cricket was formed which led to what India is today in international cricket. India has been known for its cricket craze and the fans and involvement of the sports in the culture. All that is the reward of this event that happened in the 1983 World Cup.
The Indian team defeated the two-time World Cup champion West Indies and lifted the 1983 World Cup trophy. It was a historic moment as Indian teams weren’t as widely regarded as it is now. They faced multiple odds and crossed many hurdles to reach the finals. On 25th June in 1983, the finals were played at Lords Stadium in England. Apart from the trophy they also brought recognition back home.
Twitter and social media in general reacted very positively to this historic day. Many people showered their love and appreciation towards Kapil Dev and the entire Indian squad of 1983.

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, “Some moments in life inspire you & make your dream. On this day in 1983, we won the World Cup for the first time. I knew right then, that’s what I wanted to do too!”

The BCCI also tweeted in appreciation, “A historic day & a landmark moment for Indian cricket as #TeamIndia, led by @realkapildev, clinched the World Cup title.”

Virender Sehwag also appreciated it with a heartfelt tweet, “Date mein kya rakha hai? Well, 25th June, is date mein shuruaat rakhi hai. It is a day on which India began it’s journey-in 1932 playing its first ever Test & 51 years later on 25th June 1983, Kapil Paaji & his boys winning the World Cup, which was a beginning for many cricketers.”
