Indian tennis champion Sania Mirza will retire soon from playing tennis after announcing it at the beginning of 2022. She also played her final Wimbledon game and withdrew from the iconic Tennis tournament after winning several championships. Mirza won’t be playing in the US Open, after sustaining an injury.

Sania Mirza announced her decision on her Instagram and wrote, “Hi guys, a quick update. I just have some not so great news. I hurt my forearm/elbow while playing in Canada 2 weeks ago and obviously, didn’t realize how bad it was until I got my scans yesterday and unfortunately I have in fact torn a little bit of my tendon.”

“I will be out for weeks and have pulled out of the US Open. This isn’t ideal and it’s terrible timing and it will change some of my retirement plans but I will keep you posted.” She added further in her Instagram post.

Sania Mirza is the former World Number 1 in Women’s Doubles. She has won the title at the Australian Open, US Open, French Open, and plenty more. Mirza was the semi-finalist in the 2016 Olympic Games. Sania has won six Grand Slam titles with three Mixed Doubles trophies. She is presently retired from singles and only plays mixed doubles or doubles events. According to her statements earlier this year, it will be the final year of tennis and will be retiring from all forms of tennis.
