Reports: PSL 07 Set To Take Place In January-February 2022

The seventh season of the Pakistan Super League [PSL] is expected to take place in January and February of next year, according to Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan Super League is normally held in February and March, however due to the Australian Cricket Team’s scheduled tour of Pakistan around this time, the PCB and franchise owners have opted to move the competition forward a month.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan told Cricket Pakistan in June that with the Australians due to tour Pakistan after a 24-year absence, the board did not want to take any chances.

Due to the IPL, which is set to begin in March 2022, staging the Super League after the Australian series would have meant the event would have missed out on some of the star international signings.

“We will have to sit down with the franchises and discuss this [PSL 7]. Australian team is visiting after 22 years. If we miss this window, they won’t return for another three or four years as their Future Tours Programme is already decided,” said PCB CEO Wasim Khan in an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, back in June.

“In January the weather in Karachi is decent and in early February we can shift the tournament to Punjab but we still need to do planning in this regard,” he added.

However, if the PCB decides to hold the seventh edition of the franchise T20 league in January-February, it may encounter difficulties in securing overseas players due to the BBL’s presence during that time period.

The BBL is set to take place from December 5 to January 28 in locations all throughout Australia.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan, COO Salman Naseer, GM Commercial Imran Ahmed Khan, and PSL Senior General Manager Operations Usman Wahla, as well as PSL franchise representatives, held a teleconference recently in which both parties discussed a path forward with regard to the new commercial rights cycle and established a framework for rights evaluation and its sale.
