Ramiz Raja Confirmed As Next Chairman Of Pakistan Cricket Board

Ramiz Raja is scheduled to succeed Ehsan Mani as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He’ll take over the job as soon as the succession procedure is over; Mani’s term expired on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the PCB’s patron in chief, named Ramiz Raja as one of two members. Ramiz Raja, Imran Khan’s teammate in Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup success, was recommended by the PM to the PCB Board of Governors (BOG) for election as the new chairman.

On Monday afternoon (August 23), Ramiz Raja and Ehsan Mani met with Prime Minister Modi. “I have informed him (Imran Khan) my plans,” Raja told Cricbuzz. He’ll make a phone call.”

Ramiz Raja, a former Chief Executive Officer of the PCB, announced his appointment as the new chairman to Cricbuzz on Thursday, three days after that meeting. He stated, “The goal is to reset Pakistan cricket’s GPS and we shall be in search of excellence.”

After his party won the national elections in 2018, the Prime Minister invited Mani into PCB. Mani was previously supposed to have been handed a three-year extension, but it appears that Imran Khan has changed his mind and is now looking to appoint a former cricketer to the position.

Pakistan has struggled in all formats since winning the 2017 Champions Trophy. Despite victories in home series in Test cricket, they remain well behind other top nations. This has been Ramiz Raja’s selling point: not only does he have good contacts with ICC members as an administrator, but as a former player, he understands the dynamics of international cricket better than Mani.

Ramiz Raja played 255 international matches between 1984 and 1997, and is currently a well-known commentator. He scored 2833 Test runs at 31.83 per over and 5841 ODI runs at 32.09 per over. During his 19-year domestic career, he ran over 10,000 first-class and over 9000 List-A runs.
