The government has called Infosys CEO Salil Parekh to see Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday, according to the ministry of finance.
The income tax department’s official Twitter account stated that Parekh had been called to explain to Sitharaman the ongoing issues with the IT giant’s e-filing system. Since Saturday, the I.T. department has stated that the portal “itself is not available.”
The income tax department tweeted, “Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh Salil Parekh,MD&CEO @Infosysbon 23/08/2021 to explain to hon’ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available.”
Since its introduction in June of this year, the e-filing system has been plagued by problems. Longer login times, trouble establishing one-time passwords for Aadhaar validation, and challenges accessing prior income tax returns and tax procedures were among the complaints.
Sitharaman has voiced worry about the problems when they first appeared. The government told the Lok Sabha in July that Infosys had been paid Rs 164.5 crore for its work on the e-filing platform from January to June of this year.
