World Athletics Championship: Neeraj Chopra Secures Silver Medal for Men’s Javelin: The 18th World Athletic Championship is currently being held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Neeraj Chopra represented India for javelin men in the World Athletics Championship, 2022. He claimed the second position.
He won the silver medal with his best throw of 88.13m at the fourth attempt. Grenada’s Anderson Peters won the gold medal with a throw of 90.54m. Chopra was followed by Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch who won bronze with the throw of 88.09m.
With this win, Neeraj Chopra became the second Indian and first Indian man to win a medal at the World Athletics Championship after long jumper Anju Bobby George who won bronze in 2003.

Chopra started with a foul in his first attempt. He then registered 82.39m with his second, 86.37m at third, 88.13m at fourth and fifth and sixth attempts as a foul.
In one of his virtual press conferences, he mentioned that he was trying but the conditions were challenging. He also mentioned that it is not possible to win gold in every match for an athlete.

Later Chopra said in his post-match interview, “ I am happy to have won silver, the country’s first medal in the World Athletics Championship after 19 years, I will take it…” He further said that he will focus and concentrate more to win gold next time.
