India and Spain played the qualifiers match in the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2022 on Sunday, 10th July. India is put in Pool B against England, China, and New Zealand. It was heartbreaking for Indian hockey fans, as India ended their reign to enter the World Cup.

The Indian women’s hockey team didn’t have a fruitful game where India hardly won any match, and two games ended in a draw. India vs England and India vs China ended in a 1-1 draw. The team also failed to win against New Zealand by 3-4. It was a great performance by both teams, but Spain took the lead and got further into the tournament.

Both the teams played in Spain at Terrassa, the home ground of the Spaniards. India got the opportunity of a penalty at the beginning of the game but was lost due to incredible defense by the Spanish team. In the start, both the teams held back from playing aggressively and held with their defense. The Spaniards crossed the Indian line, but captain Savita saved from an early lead. India started their attack, and Monika got a chance to score in the second PC, but Melanie Garcia saved the shot.

Salima Tete and Vandana Katariya took the ball into their court, but again the goalie got an incredible save. Marta Segu took a shot which was deflected by the Indian goalie, and got the first goal. In the final minutes, Spain lost two players, Garcia to a yellow card and Segu to a green card. India got the advantage of two players but still failed to score before the horns were blown. India will play against Canada for the 16th place classification on Tuesday.
