Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar talked about the statements given by Virat Kohli after the match with Pakistan. Virat Kohli was in talks for his poor performance. But in Asia Cup 2022, it has changed into appraisals. Kohli became the leading run-scorer in the continental tournament this season. Gavaskar replied about the “Only Dhoni called me” statement by Virat Kohli.
“I don’t know what the dressing room inside situation was with all these other players. Ideally, if he has named one person who got in touch, then maybe the other persons who didn’t get in touch should have also been named. That would have been a little bit fair to everybody concerned, rather than thinking that everybody else didn’t get in touch with him.” Sunil Gavaskar stated during talks with India Today.

In a conversation with Sports Tak, Gavaskar talked about Kohli’s statement. “What message did he want? Encouragement? But then he is done with captaincy, so why would he need encouragement? That chapter is already closed.”
“Now you are playing only as a cricketer. So focus on that role because when you are the captain, you think about and worry about your mates. Once captaincy is over, it’s time to focus on your own game.” The former Indian cricketer added.
Sunil Gavaskar talked about his time when he quit his captaincy after the Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket victory in Australia in 1985. “Now I left captaincy in 1985 after World Championship of Cricket. That night we celebrated, hugged each other but beyond that what else do you expect?”
