Rani Rampal to Miss Again: India Announced 18 Members Women’s Hockey Squad, CWG 2022: India recently announced its Women’s Hockey squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The CWG will be played on 28th July on Thursday and will halt on 8th August on Monday. India will play at Birmingham for the international hockey games. The National Women’s team is in Pool A, along with England, Canada, Wales, and Ghana.
Rani Rampal, who led the Indian Hockey team in Tokyo Olympics last year will again miss the squad list. Rampal will also miss the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2022. She suffered from a hamstring injury during the FIH Pro League games in Belgium and Netherland and is still recovering in rehab. In her absence Savita Punia is named the captain due to her experience, and Deep Grace Ekka will be vice-captain.

Chief Coach Janneke Schopman said, “We have chosen an experienced side for the Commonwealth Games, and the players believe they have a good shot at a medal this time. The team is upbeat after a good outing in the FIH Pro League matches and understands very well that the expectations are also high. We would have finished our World Cup campaign only days before the CWG, so it was very essential for us to pick a physically fit team as the recovery time between the two events is just about 10 days.”
