‘Not in a Position’: Sri Lanka Cricket Informs ACC of their Inability to Host the Asia Cup T20: The Asia Cup is due next month. It is scheduled to be held on 27th August on a Saturday. It will be a great clash between the Asian countries and one of them will rise as the best. The Asia Cup T20 was scheduled in Sri Lanka.

Reportedly the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has requested to change the host nation from Lanka to someone else. Sri Lanka is facing their biggest ever economical and political crisis since the independence of its country. Their President has resigned amongst all the chaos. The island nation has suffered a huge loss in its tourism industry, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to a report by PTI, Sri Lanka Cricket has informed the Asian Cricket Council about the decision to not host the Asia Cup. The SLC earlier postponed their Lanka Premier League amidst all the protests and unstable economy.

“Sri Lankan Cricket has conveyed that due to the existing political and economic situation in their country, especially where foreign exchange is concerned. It is not an ideal situation for them to host such a mega-event of six teams in the island.” an ACC source, stated to PTI

According to Sri Lanka Cricket might have requested to choose an alternative country to host the Asia Cup. The ACC is thinking of the United Arab Emirates or some other nation. The Asia Cricket Council will likely make the announcement of a replacement host for the Cup in a couple of days.

“UAE is not the final replacement venue, it could be some other country, even India as the ACC, Sri Lanka cricket will first have to talk with Emirates Cricket Board officials to get final approval for the events.”
