Manisha Kalyan is a young Indian striker who became the first Indian to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The player joined the Apollon Ladies FC in the European Club competition in Engom, Cypress. She became the fourth Indian woman to join an overseas tournament and receive a contract.
Manisha Kalyan replaced Marilena Georgiou from Cyprus in the 60th minute. Apollon Ladies FC defeated SFK Riga by 3-0 at the Makarios Stadium for the UWCL opener. She landed up with a multi-year contract with the top division winners of Cypriot. The 20-year-old became popular amongst her football peers due to her impressive performance in the current and last year.
She was a part of the national team, and in Gokulam Kerala in the Indian Women’s League. The AIFF awarded Manisha Kalyan with the Women’s Footballer of the Year for the 2021-2022 season. She received her big break after scoring against Brazil, who was the runner-up in the World Cup. The match was on the home ground of Brazil where she pulled off her shot.

Manisha Kalyan Becomes the First Indian to Play UEFA Women’s Champions League
She will be the second player from the IWL franchise Gokulam Kerala after Dangmei Grace joined Uzbek outfit FC Nasaf. It will be the first time an Indian player will represent in the UEFA Women’s Champions. She will be part of the next match against FC Zurich Frauen on 21st August.
