Malaysia Open 2022 HS Prannoy Lost to Jonatan Christie in the Quarterfinals

HS Prannoy had a good couple of months as his performance is the most talked about recently. He was a part of the Thomas Cup-winning team, winning their first-ever cup for the country in that tournament. He also displayed an excellent performance in the Indonesia Open as he was the only Indian to reach the semi-finals.

HS Prannoy played his quarterfinals match against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie. Prannoy tries to take the lead but fails and gets two points behind at 1-3. Both play a neck-to-neck game with 13 points each. Christie still takes the lead by 15-19, with Prannoy’s attacks not working well. The Indian got close but failed by 3 points losing the first set by 18-21.

The second set began with Prannoy taking the lead by 2-0. The Indonesian gets points at a higher rate and takes the charge by 4-6. Prannoy came close to breaking Christie’s lead at 9-11 and later at 12-14. The Indonesian soon increased the difference by five points and 18-13. HS Prannoy lost the second game by 16-21, ending his play in Malaysia.

Earlier in the day, two times Olympic medal winner PV Sindhu also exited the Malaysia Open. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also pulled out of the tournament after an injury scare.
