India completed their tour of Zimbabwe with a fabulous performance. Both teams played their final game on 22nd August at the Harare Sports Club. The Men in Blue defeated Zimbabwe in all three ODI series. Axar Patel was amongst the star bowlers of the match. He got a maiden over in the third ODI. He was brought in as a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja as there are very few left-arm spinners and batsmen.
Axar talked about the victory and his experience of getting a clean sweep victory in Zimbabwe.“It is a little tough when you play two matches and suddenly you’ve to sit out. And then again you play two or three matches. It’s tough but I back myself and train my mind to think that this is the opportunity for you to do well.” Axar Patel said in the post-match press conference.
To strengthen the bench for the future and better workload for top players the Indian team management keeps rotating the players. Axar talked about how good it feels to have a positive mindset when given an opportunity. “If I do well here, I’ll get to play the next game. I can also play with the mindset that I get dropped after getting a couple of opportunities but I take it in a positive way that I’m getting an opportunity to perform for India. If I do well, I’ll improve myself. So it’s on you how to take it.”
Leftie spinner took two wickets and gave 30 runs in 10 overs. Patel also got a maiden over in the final ODI game. “ I thought this used pitch was a little bit dry and had something for the spinners. I bowled from the other end and tried to bowl the stumps lines. I was just waiting for the batter to commit some mistake and fortunately, I got a maiden.”
Shubman Gill scored his first ton in ODI for India. He scored 130 runs in 97 balls. “The way he’s batting, the way he’s converting singles and doubles, the way he’s not playing a lot of dot balls, that to me is the biggest positive.” Axar complimented Gill on his performance.
