Punjab Kings, the IPL franchise team recently announced Trevor Bayliss as their Head Coach for the upcoming IPL 2023. Bayliss was the former England team’s head coach when they won the 2019 World Cup held at home. He also experienced victory in two IPL seasons and one Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers.
“I’m honoured to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware,” Bayliss said in an official statement released by Punjab Kings.
Anil Kumble was the previous Head Coach of the Punjab King, whom Trevor replaced. The contract was not renewed with Kumble as the team struggled with winning or qualifying for the playoff for the last three seasons. Punjab was in the finals last in 2014 where they lost their chance of winning to Kolkata Knight Riders
Punjab Kings have never won a single IPL trophy since the beginning of the League. They have finished sixth or below in the last four seasons of IPL. Mayank Agarwal took the captaincy after KL Rahul failed to lead the team.
