Indian Mens Badminton Team enters Semi Finals of Thomas Cup after 43 Years

India makes history and sets foot in the Thomas Cup Semi-Finals after four decades. The Thomas and Uber Cup held at Impact Arena in Thailand. After the parting of PV Sindhu from the Cup after losing to Thailand, Indian Men’s team is avenging that. The tournament began on 8th May on Sunday and is scheduled to end on 15th May, Sunday.  

Indian Men’s Badminton team is led by HS Pranoy, in the Quarter-Finals by defeating Malaysia. It will be our first-ever medal in the Thomas Cup since the alteration in the format. It was a close call for India as the match outcome was hard to determine due to the tough back and forth play between Malaysia. Malaysia was finally defeated with 3-2 points by a close margin. 

Doubles played by Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy thrashed the world no 13 Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin by 21-19 and 21-15. It was a historic performance by the duo and won us a place on the top. India took the lead after Kidambi Srikanth beat NG Tze Yong by 21-11 and 21-17.  It was ended by HS Pranoy dominating Leong Jun Hao in the singles game.

Though it wasn’t all winning, Malaysia did manage to defeat Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala by 19-21 and 17-21.
