India vs West Indies: Axar Breaks Dhoni’s 17 Year Old Record and Brings Victory to India: India and West Indies are currently playing a three game ODI series in India’s tour to West Indies. The matches are scheduled between 22nd July to 27th July. The matches are located at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. In the following matches, India takes a lead with 2-0 and defeats West Indies. 

With a score of 312/8 (49.4) India beat West Indies who scored 311/6 (50.0) in the 2nd ODI. In the second ODI, Axar Patel made 64 runs of 35 balls to seal the deal for India. Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54) also helped India to reach the target after India went 3 down for 79 at the 18th over. 

He broke Dhoni’s record after it was long-stood for 17 years in the ODI cricket’s history. The five sixes Axar hit was the most by an Indian batter at No.7 or lower in an ODI. During India vs Zimbabwe in 2005, Dhoni recorded three sixes.

After the match, in the post-match interview Axar said, “I think this is a special one. It came at a crucial time and also helped the team to win the series. We have done the same in the IPL. We just needed to remain calm and keep the intensity up. I was playing an ODI after close to 5 years. I would want to continue performing like this for my team.”
