India vs England: “Very Big Shoes to Fill” Hardik Pandya on Taking Place of Jasprit Bumrah: India and England played their final ODI on 17th July, Sunday at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. It was a tie-breaker match and a series winner decider match for India. Both the teams have won one game each. India won the third game by five wickets and triumphed the series by 2-1.

Rishabh Pant scored 125 runs, and Hardik Pandya scored 71 runs and chased the target of 259 runs. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who led the team to victory in the first ODI, was absent from the game. He took six wickets and was named player of the match. Instead of him, all-rounder Hardik Pandya took his bowling pace and showed a good performance.

Pandya took three wickets for the team and made a 133 runs partnership with Rishabh Pant. Reporters asked Hardik Pandya about his position and performance, he replied, “It’s always special to contribute in all departments. You always aspire to play like this when your team is in trouble.”

When asked about replacing Bumrah, he said, “We knew Jasprit was not going to play this game. He was telling me that I might have to bowl a couple of overs at the death, I said they are ‘very big shoes to fill.’ I had to step up, not at the death, but in making sure that in the middle overs I got the breakthroughs.”

Pandya also appreciated his teammate, Rishabh Pant, and his incredible performance. “We all know what kind of talent he has. When it comes out, it’s very pleasing to the eye–your heartbeat also goes up but at the same time you are in awe of the kind of shots he plays.”
