India and England played their second last day of the final test match on 4th July. The Indian team displayed a poor batting performance in the second innings after only scoring 245 runs. India had established a 256 runs gap between them after completing their second innings in batting. England managed to cut those differences and shorten it down to 119 runs. They still had a whole day left due to India giving in with their batting quickly.
Ravi Shastri was disappointed by the Indian skippers performance on day four. He stated on Sky Sports Cricket, “I think (it was) disappointing, to say the least because they could have batted England out of this contest. They needed to bat two sessions and I thought they were defensive, they were timid today, especially after lunch. Even after they had lost three wickets, they could have taken some chances. Runs were important at that stage of the game and I thought they just went into a shell, lost those wickets too quickly, and gave enough time for England to bat today.”

Ravi Shastri was the Indian Head Coach during the previous four test matches which took place in 2021. He was soon replaced by Rahul Dravid this year and is the coach for the team now. Former English captain Kevin Pietersen also questioned the captain’s tactics in the game. He said, “I don’t think Bumrah got his tactics right today at all, and I say that with the greatest deal of respect. There is no way with a reverse swinging ball that he should make it that easy for the batter because the batter is trying so hard to decipher which way that ball is swinging.”

Pietersen also added, “When it’s reverse swinging at 90mph, the nicest place to bat is at the non-striker’s end, and the ability to get to this non-striker’s end as easily as they did this afternoon, it’s too easy.”
