India and Australia played their first T20I game of the three-game series on 20th September. Rohit Sharma stated his disappointment in the team which led to the team’s defeat. The Indian team hosted Australia in preparation for the T20 World Cup. India faced a loss in the first match despite giving a competitive target.
KL Rahul made 55 runs and Hardik Pandya smashed 72 runs and gave a target of 208 runs. Rohit Sharma was questioned about the loss despite a good target. The skipper blamed the defeat on the bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to have a lower economy and gave away 52 runs in just four overs. Even with Axar Patel’s excellent bowlers, India had to face the loss.
“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances on the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were quite not there. There are things we need to look at,” Rohit Sharma stated disappointedly during the presentation ceremony.
“We know this is a high-scoring ground. You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well. They played some extra-ordinary shots. If I was in that changing room, I would expect to chase that total. You can back yourself to get 60 runs in the final 4 overs. We were not able to take their wicket.” Sharma further added.
It will be a series of losses due to poor bowling performance of the team. Limited bowlers also led to India’s exit from the Asia Cup. India’s bowling is also suffering due to the exclusion of Jasprit Bumrah as he was rested for the match.
