KL Rahul gave a unique comparison of the terrible pitch. India won the first game against South Africa in the T20I series. It was a difficult setting for both team, especially South Africa. The match was played at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It is notoriously known for being the batsman’s nightmare.

“Definitely, right up there. We have played in some difficult conditions like this but I haven’t got runs, so this was hard work. It was unbelievable for Surya to come out there and play those shots, we have seen how balls were flying, nipping around, two-paced and everything that can be hard for a batter that was the wicket today, and for Surya to come with that approach after the first ball that hit him, he just woke up and wanted to play his shots, be aggressive and take on the bowling. That helped me take my time and play one end,” KL Rahul said in the post-match interview.

South Africa gave a target of 106 runs. KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav were the only batters who chased the target and won by eight wickets. Rahul scored 51 runs and Suryakumar Yadav made 50 runs. Rahul talked about the difficulty of batting on a pitch.

Rahul compared playing on a bad pitch with having an ice bath. “Long ice bath today. Ice baths and wickets like these are not something we enjoy, but we have to do it sometimes.”
