Former Indian player and BCCI selector Dilip Vengsarkar talked about a missed player from the World Cup squad. He named Umran Malik to be the player missing from the India squad. India announced their team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in early September. Unfortunately, Umran Malik wasn’t named in the team for the World Cup. Arshdeep Singh, also the new and upcoming pacer, got picked for the squad.
“There is no out-of-the-box thinking. I would have picked Umran Malik because of his speed. He is a guy who is bowling 150kmph: you’ve got to pick him now, you can’t pick him when he becomes a 130kmph bowler. In Dubai, where the wicket was flat and grassless, where there was no bounce, you would be talked around. You needed fast bowlers who could beat the batters at pace,” Vengsarkar mentioned to Sportstar.

Umran Malik made his name with an excellent performance in IPL 2022. He was Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer. In the 14 IPL games, he picked up 22 wickets. Malik became the fastest bowler of the season. He got selected for his debut for India against South Africa. He made his on-field debut against Ireland in June.
Dilip Vengsarkar also talked about young batsmen like Shubman Gill. He supported the cause of Mohammad Shami, and Shreyas Iyer should’ve also been selected for the World Cup. “Shreyas Iyer is in good form and he missed out. Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill should be on the team. I am impressed with Gill,” He added.
