Commonwealth Games 2022 is right around the corner, with the first game to be played on 28th July. Countries are preparing for their upcoming rounds and heading to England. Hockey India has had a fruitful year with a recent FIH 5s victory recently. The Asian Games were postponed due to the rise of covid in China, which were supposed to host. India has now diverted their concentration to the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Hockey India decided to send their second-string team to the games as the main focus was on the Asian Games. It was supposed to be the qualifiers for the Paris Olympics 2024. India will now focus their prominent team on the entire squad. Manpreet Singh is named the captain once again.

India is assigned in Pool B along with England, Canada, Wales, and Ghana. The two-time former silver medallist will play their first game against Ghana on 31st July. Chief Coach of India, Graham Reid said,“ We have gone with tried and tested team for the Commonwealth Games. These players have the experience of playing top teams in high-pressure games in the FIH Pro League which was good exposure for us ahead of the prestigious quadrennial event.”
