Former Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar gave his pointers on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s performance in India vs Pakistan game. India won its first game at the Asia Cup 2022, which was against Pakistan. Though India made an impeccable victory the top order batting still had plenty of problems. Sunil Gavaskar talked about those failings and how they may have cost.
“Rahul played just one ball, so you can’t judge anything from that. Rohit and Kohli had the opportunity to bat for some time, they got runs. All these earlier times when people were talking about Kohli’s form, I kept on saying that he is not having any luck. Today, he has a lot of luck, drop catches, a lot of inside edges, which went so close to the stumps, he had the luck. But he did capitalize on it and played some very fine short.” Gavaskar told India Today.
“But one had expected that with the kind of start that he had, he should have got around 60_70. He got out immediately after Rohit got out. Both of them got out to forgettable shots. At that stage, those shots were not necessary as the asking rake was’ 19 to 20 for them to attempt sixes at that stage.”
“It was required for them to get going, get to 70-80, and then maybe go for the big shots. That should be learning from this game.” Gavaskar further added.
Hardik Pandya was the crucial Indian player for the victory. He was prevalent in both the departments, with three wickets and 33 off 17 balls. Pandya took the final shot which got India the most anticipated victory against Pakistan. Along with him, Ravindra Jadeja was also to run chaser and both made an excellent partnership. India won by five wickets and just two balls left.
