Former Pakistan Captain on This Pacer to be the “Main Hero” in Absence of Shaheen Afridi

Pakistan announced their squad for the Asia Cup 2022 two weeks ago. Notably, Shaheen Shah Afridi was part of the squad as he is presently the finest bowler. A couple of days earlier, it was announced that Shaheen would not be a part of the Asia Cup. According to reports, he sustained a knee injury.

Pakistan will face India in their first match. Coincidentally, Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah will also not be present due to an injury. Afridi last played against Sri Lanka in the test series. Salman Butt, Ex-Pakistan captain, discussed the probability of replacement for Shaheen Afridi. According to Butt, Shaheen’s absence will make way for more players to shine like Haris Rauf and Dahani.

‘Shaheen is our best bowler, but if other players like Shahnawaz Dahani and Haris Rauf want to impress, this is the perfect platform to do so. Now look at Haris first, he was Shaheen’s supporting actor, now he could be the main hero. So, this is an opportunity for others, and I am not at all worried about it.” The former captain said in the video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Shaheen was the Men’s Cricket of the Year in 2021 by ICC. He took 78 wickets in the 36 international matches played across all formats. The Pakistan officials are yet to announce their replacement for Shaheen Shah Afridi in Asia Cup.
