Five Indian Men’s Hockey Team Members Test Positive for Covid-19

The Indian Men’s Hockey team recently came back to India after a month-long expedition in Europe at the FIH Pro League games. During their return, they were tested with RT PCR to ensure their health and safety. Upon the incoming results, the members find out five of the Indian members are Covid-19 positive.

The team landed in Bengaluru, heading towards their base, when three support staff and two players were found infected with Covid. The five of them exhibited mild symptoms and were placed in isolation. No names of any of the five people were disclosed to the public. They are under quarantine in Bengaluru, while the others are also extra precarious.

The Indian team arrived to prepare for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 starting next month. Both Men’s and Women’s teams will be participating, and the fans are anticipating their victory in Birmingham. The men’s team will have a four-week long training in the national camp at the Sports Authority of India.

Head Coach Graham Reid said, “The players got a brief six-day break to go spend time with their families after the FIH Pro League matches in Europe. I believe this break has helped players return feeling fresh both mentally and physically. The next three weeks, we are going to focus on improving our performance. In FIH Pro League where we had the opportunity to play against the best teams in the world.”
