India will host the Men’s FI Hockey World Cup in January 2023. The game will be played at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela in Odisha. It was recently announced that the top sixteen teams from all over the world will participate in the World Cup.
With less than a year left, people at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela are very excited to host several teams in their cities. The World Cup is scheduled to begin from 13th January to 29th January. Hockey fans from every corner of the world will be watching the matches live. Amit Rohidas, an Indian National Hockey player, stated, “ The people of Odisha, particularly those who live in Rourkela, are extremely excited that an event as big as the World Cup is happening in their city. The craze for Hockey in this region is unmatched, and with the biggest stadium in the country being developed there for Hockey, people are counting the days to experience a world-class event. For us players, it will be great to play in Rourkela and experience this Hockey craze.”

The Indian team is currently practicing with five other teams at SAI in Bangalore. They are preparing for tough matches and will plan on keeping the World Cup in India.
Infrastructural development is going on with a full craze, and the accommodation and practice centers are being built for the visiting team. The first venue for the cup will be Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Kalinga previously hosted the 2018 Men’s World Cup. The second venue for the 2023 cup is under construction in Rourkela.

Gyanendra Ningombam, President of Hockey India stated, “ The Stadium in Rourkela will be a top-notch stadium for Hockey in the world, with the Odisha State Government putting in great efforts to complete the work well in time for the World Cup in January next year. At the Kalinga Hockey Stadium too, there is up-gradation work going on in full swing. Hockey India officials regularly visit the worksite to provide their feedback. We are very grateful to Odisha for the efforts they are putting in to create a world-class facility for Hockey, despite the ongoing battle with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
