The Asia Cup is about to begin soon. BCCI has announced the team for the Continental Championships between six participating countries. The Asia Cup will be in T20 format instead of the usual One Day. Asian Cricket Council has selected T20 to prepare for the upcoming T20I World Cup, in October.
Every team is preparing its players to put forth a better effort for the World Cup. Each squad is observing their players for the selection of the World Cup squad. Ex Indian Cricketer and BCCI selector Saba Karim provided some of his expertise in picking a better team for the World Cup. Dinesh Karthik is back in the Indian squad after a long break. He has a series of issues but came through it in IPL 2022 and then in the South Africa series.
Karthik is playing the role of a finisher exceptionally well after an exciting performance against West Indies. Many players are giving their best performance and must choose for the No. 4 position Rishabh Pant, Karthik, and Suryakumar Yadav.
Saba Karim said, “Yes, you better need to sort it out as soon as possible. But you know what, to fix the No.4 slot or the No. four positions for a specific player, we need to get the combination and balance of the side correct. When I say this I mean they need to pick between Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant. Once you decide on either of these players, it’ll get easy to sort in Suryakumar Yadav at number four.” Karim stated on the Sports18 news show ‘Sports Over the Top’.

He also felt India would be better with five bowlers and Hardik Pandya in the sixth rank. “I feel that to get the balance right, India has done well with five bowlers plus Hardik Pandya as a 6th bowling option. So would you like to break that kind of combination and get in another bat at number seven, that is Dinesh Karthik at number 7? That means that you go in with Hardik Pandya, the fifth bowler who is expected to bowl 4 overs, so that is another big call from the Indian team management.”

“So then if so that may pose some issues for the Indian team management. Whatever I have seen from Rohit Sharma captaincy, I think he prefers to have five regular bowlers plus Hardik Pandya as their sixth bowling option. If that is the case then you need to decide between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik.”
