Deaflympics 2022 Dhanush Srikanth Win Gold and Shourya Saini Win Bronze for India

Dhanush Srikanth shot for the gold in the ongoing Deaflympics 2022. Srikanth came on top in the 10m air rifle competition. Shourya Saini also aimed for the win and won a bronze medal in the same 10m air rifle competition. 

This is the 24th Deaflympics currently going at Caxias do Sul in Brazil. They ensured a glorious beginning to India’s entry to the Deaflympics. 

Both Dhanush Srikanth and Shourya Saini emerged on top of the score in the eight-man finals. Srikanth and Saini won gold and bronze with Korea’s Kim Woo Rim getting the silver medal.

Dhanush shot 247.5, creating a world record for the Deaflympics finals. Kim scored 246.6, and Shourya Saini came in the third position with 224.3. 

India is currently on the eighth rank on the Deaflympics medals table with two Golds and one Bronze to their name. Ukraine leads the table with nineteen Golds, six Silvers, and thirteen Bronze medals.

Dhanush Srikanth comes from Telangana and was trained under the Olympic Bronze medalist Gangan Narang. Srikanth, was also coached by Anuja Jung and Priti Sharma of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). National Rifle Association of India also trained Shourya for Deaflympics 2022.

Dhanush shot 623.3 to qualify for the Deaflympics second to Kim, who shot 625.1. In the showdown, Kim took the lead in the 24 shots finals. Dhanush took the lead at the 18th shot and made up the difference, finally earned the Gold medal for India.
