Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Commonwealth Games athletes representing India. He congratulated them for an exceptional performance at the CWG 2022. India came fourth in the total medal tally and gold medal winners. Weightlifting and Wrestling was the leading medal-winning sport for India.
Weightlifter Sanket Sagar won the first medal for India, grabbing silver. Weightlifting icon Mirabai Chanu won the first gold medal at the Birmingham Games. PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh were the flag bearers for India in the Opening Ceremony. The Indian Women’s Cricket team gained a silver medal and so did the Men’s Hockey team.
India won their first-ever gold in lawn bowling and clinched gold in table- tennis. India wrapped up the Commonwealth Games 2022 with 61 medals, 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze. Wrestling topped the medal chart with 12 medals followed by Weightlifting with 10. Prime Minister addressed, “I am happy that all of you have taken time out of your schedule to come to meet me at my residence as members of the family. I, just like all other Indians, feel proud to be talking to you. I welcome you all.”

I was confident that you’ll come back victorious, I had also thought of meeting you even if I would be busy and celebrate Vijayotsav” PM Modi said during an interaction with the contingents present at his residence.
