Virender Sehwag Asks For Explanation From Selectors Over Non-Selection Of Yuzvendra Chahal For ICC T20 World Cup

Yuzvendra Chahal

Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed the Indian Premier League (IPL) defending champions Mumbai Indians by 54 runs in Dubai on Sunday. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a brilliant session. In his four-over session against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians, Chahal took three wickets and gave up just 11 runs. In an interview with Cricbuzz after the match, former India opener Virender Sehwag stated he “couldn’t understand” why Chahal was not included in the squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

“It’s not that Chahal was doing something different in these last two matches. He has been doing the same as he does all the time. He did the exact same thing in Sri Lanka. He knows how to bowl in this format,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz Live.

“I could never understand why he was not selected. Some sort of a reason should be given, whether he is out of form or if there seems to be someone who is better and bowls extraordinarily. It is not like we saw Rahul Chahar bowled really well during the Sri Lanka tour. I just couldn’t understand why Chahal was dropped and the way he is bowling, he can walk straight into any team in the world,” Sehwag added.

The selectors chose five spinners and reinstated Ravichandran Ashwin for the T20 World Cup, but kept Chahal out of the 15-player roster for the main event.

The T20 World Cup will begin on October 17 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Teams have until October 10 to make adjustments to their tentative squad.
