Shane Warne, a former Australian cricketer, has compiled a list of his top ten favourite commentators who have influenced how sports broadcasting is seen around the world. He recruited Ian Ward, a British broadcaster, to serve as the team’s host.
Commentating is a difficult job, especially in Test matches. To keep viewers interested, it must be compelling. At the same time, they must deliver regular updates while still sustaining the viewers’ interest.
With that in mind, Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne compiled a list of the top commentators from the beginning of cricket’s popularity. Richie Benaud, although having a brief playing career, has gone on to become one of the most well-known and respected pundits in the sport. He came up on top of a list that included India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri.
“Here’s my fav commentators list. The original Ch 9 team who changed sports broadcasting – not just cricket !!! Benaud, Lawry, I.Chappell, Greig, Nicholas, Shastri, Tony Lewis, Hussain, I.Smith, Holding. And the best host on the planet to compliment this team would be Ian Ward,” Warne wrote on his Twitter account.
Ian Chappell was promoted to the position of coach; however, he was only able to stay for a short time. Shastri, on the other hand, is India’s current national coach. For the past five years, the team has topped the ICC Test rankings.
Ian Smith, who was a part of the memorable 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal between New Zealand and India, was also added. Former West Indian bowler Michael Holding and former England captain Nasser Hussain are the most active members of the list.
In the ongoing 5-match Test series between England and India, both Holding and Hussain are commentating for Sky Sports. The series is now tied at 1-1, with the fourth match being played at the Oval.
