IPL 2021: We Felt That The Wicket Was Getting A Little Tougher – Devdutt Padikkal After RCB’s Defeat

After the defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Devdutt Padikkal stated that the wicket at Sharjah Cricket Stadium was becoming more difficult to bat on.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were defeated by MS Dhoni and co. by 6 wickets on Friday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Virat Kohli-led team got off to a good start with a century opening partnership, but were eventually dismissed for 156 by CSK bowlers.

Devdutt Padikkal said they were planning to take the game deep because the surface was becoming more difficult to bat on and they knew things wouldn’t be simple for the young batters.

“Yeah, definitely. There are always some things we can improve on. At that stage, we were looking to take the game deep, we felt that the wicket was getting a little tougher and we knew it would not be easy for someone new coming into bat. So, yeah that was what we were looking to do and trying to take our chances whenever we can,” said Devdutt Padikkal during a virtual post-match press conference.

Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 70 (50) runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), was the highest run-scorer for the squad against Chennai Super Kings.

RCB was eyeing a total of over 170 at one point. However, due to the poor performance of the middle-order batting units, they were dismissed at 156, allowing CSK to comfortably chase the total.

Devdutt Padikkal stated that they were a few runs short and that they should have scored at least 170-180 runs after such a strong start. He also believes that RCB will improve in future games and get back on track.

“Obviously when you have a start like that you would like to get 170-180 at least. We really did not set a target like that, we were trying to play to the merit of the ball, unfortunately, it did not work out against CSK. But hopefully, we can make that right in the next game,” said Padikkal.

On Sunday, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face the Mumbai Indians (MI) captained by Rohit Sharma at the Dubai International Stadium.
