IPL 2021: Punjab Kings Adds Wily England Spinner Adil Rashid To Its Squad

Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid, an England leg-spinner, has been added to Punjab Kings’ team for the forthcoming second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

Rashid will join Nathan Ellis as the Punjab franchise’s overseas replacement bowlers after injury and bio-bubble worries sidelined Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith. Rashid is a T20 specialist, coming in second only to Chris Jordan in England’s top wicket-takers list.

With Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin already on board, his signing strengthens Punjab Kings’ spin department even further. Bishnoi has done well in the few opportunities he’s had, while Murugan is coming off a strong season in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

Rashid will report to the camp and begin his training as soon as possible, since the world’s largest T20 competition is due to commence on September 19. In the Punjab squad, he will be joined by his English teammates Chris Jordan and Dawid Malan.

Rashid was a part of the just concluded The Hundred tournament, where he finished as the equal top wicket-taker. Despite his team’s lacklustre performance, Rashid captured 12 wickets, which drew the attention of IPL franchises.

He is currently one of England’s top spinners, having already won the World Cup with the country in 2019. Rashid may also be utilised in the powerplay, which worked well for Eoin Morgan and his teammates during their recent tour of India.

Despite the fact that this will be his debut IPL, the 33-year-old has plenty of experience. Rashid has already established himself in many T20 leagues throughout the world. Rashid is likely to make his debut shortly, given that the rest of the tournament will be hosted in the UAE, which favours spinners.

On September 21, the Punjab Kings will resume their quest for a title against the Rajasthan Royals. They are currently in sixth position, having won three of their first eight games.
