Avinash Sable Breaks the 30-year-old National Record in 5000m Steeplechase

Avinash Sable is a 27-year-old army man from Beed district in Maharashtra is a National level runner representing India at many International competitions. He also represented India in the previous year’s Tokyo Olympics in the steeplechase.

Sable also holds the National record for 3000 meters steeplechase, which clearly wasn’t enough for this 27-year-old runner. He broke the 30-year-old 5000-meter National record at the Sound Running Track Meet, which happened at San Juan Capistrano in California state of the United States of America. Avinash broke the long-running record of Bahadur Prasad, set in 1992 at Birmingham. 

Avinash completed the hurdle race in 13 minutes and 25.65 seconds, breaking the earlier National record of 13 minutes and 29.70 seconds. Though Sable didn’t win the race, he came in thirteenth position in Sound Running Track Meet. Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway won the race with 13 minutes and 2.03 seconds. He also won the gold medal in 1500 meters at the Tokyo Olympics. 

Avinash Sable also holds the National record for 3000 meters steeplechase by beating his own National record. Sable’s previous record was established in the Tokyo Olympics at 8 minutes, 18.12 seconds which he broke at the Indian Grand Prix 2 held in Thiruvananthapuram with 8 minutes, 16.21 seconds. Avinash qualified for the World Championship in Eugene, the USA, from 15th to 24th July.
