Australian teams have officially arrived in Sri Lanka for their upcoming tour in all-format matches. They landed in Colombo yesterday, on 1st June, and the games will begin on 7th June. Australian Head Coach Andrew McDonald will be absent for the entire tour due to an end-moment Covid positive report. It will be around one and a half months long limited-over round, and two test games. Assistant Coach Michael Di Venuto will be overseeing the Australian team, while McDonald will join ahead of the first game.
Australia has announced three strong squads to be playing in the all-format matches. The teams will be playing the T20 series, five One Days, and two test matches. The first and second T20 matches will be played at RPS. Pallekele will host the third game, and it will be the final T20. The two tests will be played in Galle. It will be the first tour of Sri Lanka in six years for the Australians. The T20 will be from 7th June till 11th June, Test matches from 8th June to 11th June, and ODI from 14th June to 24th June.
It will be a controversial tour as Sri Lanka is facing the worst economic crisis since their independence in 1948. Plenty of questions ascended on whether it is ethical for Sri Lanka to spend money on this tour. They are encountering a shortage of foreign exchange and essential survival items. The Australian squad raised questions based on the crisis, but the Cricket Board of South Asian Country gave a green light and declared the tour will go as scheduled. It will be a great opportunity for Sri Lanka as they are also preparing to host the upcoming Asia Cup.
