South Korea crushed all hopes for Malaysia to become the gold medallist for the first time in Asia Cup Hockey 2022. It was a thrilling game between both the teams, and each was playing well, but only one emerged victorious. The finals was on 1st June at 5:00 pm IST at GBK Sports Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia.  Both the teams were playing for the third time, the first game was won by Malaysia by 4-5 and the second game was a draw. Koreans secured their place in the finals after ending in a drawn match against India.

The Malaysian team was all set to win the finals as they haven’t lost a single game but ended in a few draw games. It was a heartbreaking moment for Malaysian fans as they were expecting their team to bring their first-ever Asia Cup gold medal. Both teams aimed to score goals and attacked but failed to score in the first quarter. The South Koreans took the lead in the 17th minute, and Jung Man Jae scored the first goal of the game. It was a disappointing start for the Malaysians, but they did make a comeback in the 25th minute. Syed Cholan scored a goal and equaled the score by 1-1.

The rest of the match was both the teams going back and forth with attacking and defending. It wasn’t until the 52nd minute when Korea took a game-changer leap and got the bowl through the opponent’s net. Hwang Taeil led the South Korean team to their fifth victory in the Asia Cup through his goal. Arul Selvaraj, Malaysian coach, said, “My players were always a meter away and two seconds slower than the Koreans. Their experienced players made the difference in this match.”
