The All India Football Federation was fined USD 18,000 by the Asian Football Confederation for the fan invasion during the Asian Cup qualifying round in Kolkata. The Asian Cup qualifications were held in India in Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium in June. Afghanistan was playing the qualification when the fans invaded the ground.

The AFC fined USD 18,000 on Monday for the lack of control or administration. But USD 13,500 is a suspended fine that will be paid if a similar incident happens again within two years. The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Asian Football Confederations imposed a USD 8,000 fine. The AFC had to take such actions after an Indian spectator invaded the India team’s technical bench, which is a restricted area during the match.

The AFC considered such irresponsibility as “an act of improper conduct” on the part of AIFF. AFC remarked that India failed to fulfill its obligations on two counts, “take every safety precaution demanded by the circumstances during the match” and “ensure that law and order were maintained in the stadium and its immediate surroundings.”

The AFC issued a statement, “AIFF is ordered to pay a fine of USD 3,000 for violating Art. 65.1 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code…USD 2,250 of the amount… is suspended for a probationary period of two years.” The statement further mentioned, “Should another violation of similar nature occur within the probationary period, the suspension is automatically revoked, and the sanction applied: it is added to the  sanction pronounced for the new infringement.”

On 14th June, two Indian spectators invaded the field play and the team’s technical bench. The AFC imposed a USD 5,000 fine again suspending some, which will be revoked if a similar incident happens.
