Ruturaj Gaikwad Hits His Maiden IPL Century, Joins Elite List of Batters

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hit his first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an unbeaten 101-run knock against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. RR put Gaikwad in to bat first, and he and Faf du Plessis put on a 47-run partnership for the first wicket. Following the removal of du Plessis and Suresh Raina by RR, Gaikwad teamed up with Moeen Ali to lead the CSK innings. Gaikwad accelerated his bat after reaching his half-century midway through the CSK innings and hammered the RR spinners all over the pitch.

He then added a fifth wicket partnership with Ravindra Jadeja to help CSK reach 189/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Gaikwad smashed RR bowler Mustafizur Rahman for a six off the last ball of the innings to stay not out at 101.

In his innings, Gaikwad faced 60 deliveries and smashed nine fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 168.33. As RR bowlers experienced a night to forget, he stayed on the crease for a total of 113 minutes – the entirety of CSK’s innings.

Gaikwad’s century is the IPL’s 66th and the 24th by an Indian batsman. In the IPL, it is the ninth century by a CSK player.

Gaikwad, who is 24 years old, is the fifth CSK player to score an IPL century and the franchise’s youngest player to do so.

In the Orange Cap race, the teenager overtook KL Rahul thanks to his outstanding performance. In this IPL season, Gaikwad has a total of 508 runs, while Rahul has 489.
