Mumbai Indians, On Tuesday will face Punjab Kings in the 42nd match of IPL 2021. The previous time these two teams met, Mumbai Indians were held to a disappointing 131-run total in the first innings. Rohit Sharma scored 63 runs off 52 deliveries in his lone innings.

Punjab’s Shami and Bishnoi both took two wickets. The Kings won by 9 wickets after chasing down the target in just 17.4 overs. KL Rahul hit an undefeated 60 off 52 balls, while Chris Gayle hit 43 off 35 balls to remain unbeaten. Take a look at how both clubs have fared since then.

Mumbai Indians are now in seventh place on the points table, with only four wins in ten matches, contrary to everyone’s expectations. They’ve had the poorest start to their second-leg campaign, losing all three games they’ve played in the United Arab Emirates. They are coming off a 54-run loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The bowlers have done an excellent job. The pace attack should not be a source of concern. Rahul Chahar hasn’t been at his best, but he’s also not out of shape. In the last game against RCB, they went for a lot of runs on the powerplay, which was an unusual occurrence. MI, on the other hand, dialled it back in the death overs, limiting them to 165 runs. With three wickets, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers. Their main concern, however, is the batting order.

After reaching a half-century, Rohit Sharma would have been disappointed not to have played to the end. Quinton de Kock failed to turn his strong start into a massive score once again. The main source of concern is their middle overs. Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, and Krunal Pandya have all failed to make an impression. Batsmen’s low scores have often led to their demise.

On Sunday, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got the chase off to a flying start, scoring fifty runs in the first six overs without losing a wicket.

After Rohit and Quinton de Kock returned to the pavilion, though, things changed. With Rohit Sharma’s wicket in the ninth over, MI’s second innings collapsed, as they were bowled out for just 111 runs. Surya Kumar Yadav (8 of 9) failed to deliver, as did Krunal Pandya (5 of 11), Kieron Pollard (7 of 10) and Ishan Kishan (9 of 12).

Punjab Kings, on the other hand, are coming off a 5-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their most recent encounter. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal both returned to the hut with low scores on a rare occasion, but Punjab eventually crossed the finish line. Punjab’s batsmen were ineffective in the first innings, with none of the players stepping up. Aiden Makram made 27 runs off 32 balls, while KL Rahul made 21 runs off 21 balls. Punjab were dismissed for 125 in the first innings.

To get his team back into the game, Mohammad Shami sent both Warner and Williamson back to the hut in his first two overs. As SRH’s middle-order continued to disappoint its followers, Ravi Bishnoi went through the order. Punjab Kings kept SRH to 120 runs in the end, winning by 5 runs. Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar were also very frugal.

The Punjab Kings are now in fifth place on the points table, and a win on Tuesday might help them climb into the top half.
