On Sunday, a private business installed an inflatable theatre in Ladakh, making it the union territory’s first travelling cinema.
In a statement, a representative for PictureTime Digiplex stated that the firm has built its travelling, inflatable theatre in Leh in an effort to bring world-class digital cinema viewing experiences to every part of India.
It was installed at a height of 11,562 feet, according to the firm, making it the world’s highest altitude theatre.
According to the spokeswoman, the inflatable theatre was set up at the NSD Grounds in Leh, with Ladakh Buddhist Association president Thupstan Chewang as the main guest and actor Pankaj Tripathi as the guest of honour.
At the opening of the theatre, the critically acclaimed short film ‘Sekool’ about the Changpa Nomads of Ladakh, directed by Stenzin Tankong, was screened.
Later in the evening, a special screening of the recently released film Bell Bottom will be held for Army and CISF troops, according to a business spokeswoman.
Sushil Chaudhary, the founder and CEO of Picturetime Digiplex, stated that the company’s aim has always been to reach out to the country’s entertainment black holes.
“Ladakh had been missing out on a big cinema screen for quite some time and I always wanted to bring in a multiplex cinema watching experience for the people here. I am so grateful to the Government of Ladakh for having faith in us, he said.
Installing cinemas in Ladakh, according to actor Pankaj Tripathi, is a wonderful initiative.
“For someone like me who belongs to the film world, this comes across as such a unique and different means of film exhibition. Having a concept like this, that too in a gorgeous location such as Leh, is absolutely incredible.
I have been shooting in Leh and I have come across such amazing talent here. Through Picturetime’s inflatable travelling theatre, people here won’t just get access to the latest films, but it would also create wonderful opportunities for the talented people of Ladakh, he said.
